As we continue to explore how to build a more modern understanding of Ifa I’d like to discuss the flawed approach many shamanic practitioners and New Age followers engage in.
As shamanic practitioners we skate a fine line between understanding how energetic alignment can influence events in our lives, and the belief that we can somehow “make things happen”.
It is possible for us to create results in our lives through positive attitude, being clear about our goals, and taking spiritual action to align ourselves with that we’re seeking to achieve. But, that’s not enough. To understand why let’s take a step back.
We’ll use the five elements model to look at how things are manifested. Manifestation starts with spirit, then moves through each of the elements until it reaches physical reality. Magical thinking correctly recognizes the role of spirit, and sometimes the air, and water elements but stops there. Without passion, and real world action, the fire and earth elements, nothing happens.
Spirit allows for inspiration, bringing new ideas. Air allows us to imagine through creative visualization. Water allows s to emotionally engage with the idea. To create the dream upon which reality can be based. But a dream is only a dream, an idea only an idea.
What’s missing? The importance of human action in making things happen. The fire element is about your passion. The intense desire that you have for a goal that allows your passion to drive you froward. Without your drive and sincere desire you are unlikely to produce results because fire spurs you into action.
The most important thing missing in magical thinking is the Earth element. Earth uses the passion of fire to make ideas and dreams reality It is about practical action leading to real-world results. We must take action in order for our desires to manifest. Without sustained, practical, effort we leave our dreams to chance. Even if our work has allowed opportunities to arise, we may not notice them if we’re not ready to take action.
One of the trickiest areas for manifestation is relationships where others’ free will comes into play.
If you want to find someone begin with praying for support and inspiration. You’ve engaged the Spirit element. Then create a goal that’s compelling and realistic. Air element, check. Next let yourself dream an emotionally powerful dream. Doing that will move you from water to fire. Let that dream build passion, get you excited to find him. Then, and most importantly, let that passion push you into action. Get out into the world and create opportunities for you to meet him, engage with people online, find other ways you might connect. Then keep doing them until you find him.
Your goal may be be change as you go. But, keep going no matter what. Perseverance is your greatest ally in making things happen in your life. Can your results seem miraculous? Yes, they can. But, there’s nothing magical about this. Your hard work and focus mean more than anything else if you want to make your dreams, reality. Next month we’ll explore why sometimes even sustained effort just isn’t enough.
